I learned from my experiences with the Lakota about female power. I was born with an early feeling of spirituality, and I remember wondering, in our church, where I fit in…there was so much male presence and I couldn’t figure out where I was supposed to fit in, in this spiritual philosophy.

I started out singing in the Church choir. Then when it came time to go to Confirmation, when I was 12, I couldn’t do it. It wasn’t that I didn’t have a Love for Jesus as a teacher, though he was never the only teacher in my world. It was that I was always wondering where the women were in all of these teachings. Where was the sacred body of women? All I read about was taint and fall…and I didn’t buy it. ~ 38, USA
